100 Days of repeating patterns to set your mindset for success

Written by Tammy Machmali

If you’ve been following me online for the last few months you’ll know I’ve been creating patterns. For years, one of my dreams was to become a surface designer and have my art on wallpaper, fabric, stationery, home goods, etc.

In February 2021, I started the 100 days challenge where I make one pattern design a day. During this time, I took Juliet Meeks’ licensing course https://julietmeeks.mykajabi.com/course & afterwards in March 2021 I took the Immersion Course by Bonnie Christine https://www.surfacepatterndesigners.com/immersion which I highly recommend. I am actively pursuing a career in surface pattern design by designing collections I plan to pitch to companies soon.

While this process might seem tedious on the surface, it is really quite busy behind the scenes. So, to keep myself accountable and my mind on my goal, I started participating in #The100DayProject challenge!

For the last 100 days, since February 1st, I have shared one pattern design or a repeating pattern a day on my Instagram account @tammymachmali.

There are no rules or restrictions to this, which is great if you want to start getting creative and work on a skill. If you would like to join in, let me know and I will gladly send you more information!

As for how I created my patterns, I have been using hand-drawing with a combination of watercolors and acrylics. Afterwards I started designing the patterns on Adobe Illustrator to bring my patterns to life digitally, some days posting mock-ups to show how they would look on products. I am super excited. It’s fun to see how it will work out in the world. Once I complete the challenge in the next few weeks, I will be updating you. Check back to see what I’ve created! Now most of these these designs are available on Spoonflower https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/tammy_machmali.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
